I ordered a few Trident maples from arborday and received them a month ago. The leaves sprouted on the tree and they look nothing like maples to me. Maybe they sent the wrong tree can anyone tell me what kind of tree this looks like?

Are the leaves alternate or opposite?

No, impressed veins and toothed margins not found in that species. Might be a Tatarian maple, has some resemblance to that one and it's another common name that starts with a "T" (if you are looking at a faded label or going from memory). Or possibly a viburnum, although it does look more like a maple. If these are popping up in the yard it might even be a species native to the vicinity, if not one planted nearby.

Try Acer tataricum or one of its subspecies.

Yeah I think it must be a Tatarian maple. I just looked at pictures of one online. Thank you all for helping out

    I'd agree with Acer tataricum.

Here it is a trident maple. I think your tree seems very different.

I forgot you said you ordered them etc., surely somebody along the way got "trident" confused with "Tatarian". This kind of thing happens rather often.

Yeah I sent The aborday Foundation and email,And told them That the trees are not trident maples, and they said they would send me out the right trees, That the nursery they deal with got them mixed up some how

Supposedly a magazine article awhile back said the mislabeling rate in nurseries was about 33%. Hard to believe it's that bad but partly it depends on what was included in "mislabeling". And the point to be gotten is that there is a lot of mislabeling.

From what's been posted on various forums, Aborday Foundation are leaders in increasing that percentage!
