I recently found a decidous tree with tiny cones. The tree is not a gingko or Tamarack, it has oval leaves and tiny cones, less than an inch long. the cones are thinner then the cones on the tamarack. It was growing on the banks of a pond in a park in Milwaukee, wi. Can anyone identify it.

    Thanks

Sounds like an alder Alnus. Technically, the "cones" are woody catkins, not cones in the sense that conifers have. But they do look very like cones.
