How do you know whether the hibiscus is tropical or hardy? I bought one at our local farmer's market, but when I got it home, realized that there were no tags, so I don't know what kind it is. Can you tell by looking at the leaves or something? I live in Western North Carolina and I want to plant it outside if possible, but I don't want to kill it. Please help!!

the leaves of the hardy hibiscus are more dull and light green, the tropical hibiscus leaves are very shiny, dark green. hardy hibiscus has an upright growth habit and can reach 3 feet tall. tropical hibiscus is more shrubby, unless it is trained into a tree form.

Thank you! That answered my question. I think I have a tropical one, it has shiny, dark green leaves!! But it is standing upright probably about 2 ft tall! So, I guess no planting outside for this plant.
