I have a 6 foot tall Avocado tree with only a few leaves. It was doing really well till recently, and now the majority of the leaves are changing to a brown color and getting these holes. As a sample I took one leave off the tree (imagine all the leaves looking like this). What's going on with the tree....is it a bug or something else?

It could possibly be a bacterial disease which sometimes cause holes in the dead tissue.
However my guess is hail or some other physical damage (Santa-Ana winds?).
Trees with broad leaves can sometimes show more damage than harder/smaller leaves such
as Holly or Toyon which are tough.

It's been really cold the last few weeks (plus wind chill has been strong), and rain has been a factor, but no hail.
I bought a spray on insect medication. It won't hurt the tree, but I'm going to spray it today (just to kill anything that may be eating the leaves at night)
