Thanks everyone for previous ids, I am coming hopefully to the end of what's out there.

This first one is a small tree in the front yard. It bloomed early in the spring with large red blossoms, it almost seems like a camelia, but in the fall of last year there were large nuts on it, almost like a chestnut. I have put in a close-up of the leaves with the beginnings of the nuts.

The second one was very difficult to photograph due to what is growing around it, I ended up only with a close-up of the leaves. The plant is about 3-4 feet high now, with woody branches.

    The other is Camellia japonica.

Thanks so much! Now I know how to take care of both of them.
