    Hello-

I have a couple of questions that I hope have not already been answered. 1. what is/are some of the smaller magnolias (I want to possibly plant one in a spot that does not have a lot of room)? 2. is it possible to keep magnolias in containers ?

I'm aware that these trees are big, having seen quite a number, but may be the experts here know of an exception or two?
    Thanks for any info.

The smallest hardy ones are star magnolia, lily magnolia, the Kosar-Devos hybrids between these two, and Oyama magnolia. If you are going to try tub culture instead and can provide overwintering under glass then tender or less hardy ones like banana shrub (Magnolia figo, syn. Michelia figo) can be tried instead.
