I have an in-ground Hibiscus, large woody stems with large pink flowers. When is a good time to cut it back for winter? I believe it is called "Memphis Belle"

You probably have a herbaceous Hibiscus so it will die back to the ground after a heavy frost. You could cut it back anytime, but waiting until frost will give it the maximum # of frost free days to store carbs for next year.

if it has large wody stems, it is probably hibiscus syriacus and not hibiscus moscheutos, if it is a syriacus it only needs to be pruned in the spring or fall, and it won't die back from frost because it is a woody shrub, and the only pruning it will need is to just clean it up a bit in the spring.

Thanks James, I know now it is the Moscheutus "Southern Belle" and I guess I can cut it back anytime.
