I have a 6 year old semi-dwarf cherry tree that began loosing leaves a few weeks ago. They look burnt by the sun. I thought it needed more water but this did not help. Even the new growth is browning now and I am worried that it is dying.
I have same age nectarine, apricot, another cherry tree and a french plum that are all doing very well , getting very similar watering and full sun often during the day.
I guessed I had left too many large competing agathapus plants too close to the cherry trees roots. Rermoving these plants and watering heavily where they were also had no effect.

Can root rot cause a tree to just dry up, like this?
