I would like help identifying a large tree with a bright green trunk that I saw at the 'Garden of Eden' arboretum on Maui. The owner of the garden would also like to know what it is. I have only one photo of the the lower part of the tree but the thorns are very prominent at the points where the branches meet the trunk. Also, the branches join the trunk at nearly right angles. The owner of the garden wrote: Aloha and glad to hear you enjoyed our Garden. The photo you sent is indeed a mystery tree. We don't actually know what it is. The only thing we know is its origin is from Africa and it has the thorns on it to keep water buffalos from eating it up. The seeds were given to Alan by this guy on Maui many years ago who collected unusual seeds. He didn't know what it was either. We have 3 of them in the park. Sorry we couldn't answer your question. If you ever find out what it is please let us know. Hope to see you at the Garden again sometime. Sincerely. Vadra Thanks for any help you can give!
