I was given this plant by my mom because it was too messy, but she doesn't know what kind it is. Any help will be appreciated.

The link you've provided has stated that in order for a Kalanchoe blossfeldiana to be forced to bloom, it requires 14-16 hours of darkness for 6 weeks. Now, I am in no way a savant in regards to plants, but what makes you say it's light starved?

Meaning it requires 6 to 8 hrs of sun per day to flower.
Any more than that will inhibit blossoms. Much less and
you get a leggy, spindly non-flowering mess.
