Not sure; not Diospyros kaki (has broader leaves) but maybe other species are possible. I was rather surprised, after seeing the thread title and expecting something fairly easy to identify, to find something so unfamiliar.
I agree it is not D. kaki. The consensus ID from other friends is Diospyros lotus, with second choice Diospyros virginiana. We saw this tree while walking in Paris last month and could not ID it right away. Some leaves were falling without change in color. Unusually for this time of the year there were no fruits present. D. lotus would be my guess also. Some years ago I was shown tree sized example(s) of that species in a Seattle park.
