I would like to know if someone could help me ID this plant. I was growing on the side of a palm tree here in Veracruz Mexico where I live. Thanks. David
Catasetum. I'll say tenebrosum, but not sure. Those are female flowers. I'll find out more and continue.
Okay, after a bit of looking, it looks like there is only one species of Catasetum in your area, which is C. integerrinum. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like your photo. Was this taken in the wild, or near populated areas? It is possible that another speices escaped cultivation, or somehow became established there. The closest one I can come to, given the photos that I have seen, is C. sanguineum, hermaphroditic form. http://www.orchidspecies.com/orphotdir/catsangueneum.jpg http://www.orchidspecies.com/catsanguineum.htm It is native to Columbia and Venezuela. Hope this helps.
