These photographs I took 2-3 years ago. What has caused doubts about the sp. is the length of the leaves 17cm. I think it is Crocus napolitanus (Mord et Loisel) = ( Crocus vernus var. grandiflorus Gay ) This sp. is very wide spread in the Campania of Naples. However, there are also 4 -5 other sp. that are to be found in the same area. This specimen was growing in an olive grove at a quota of 1060 ft. above sea level.
Does this flower match the description of Crocus napolitanus? If so, I would not worry one whit about the length of the leaf. Nice pics....thanks for posting.
Thanks Susan. Also Crocus longifolius matches. I can guess what you are thinking - Longifolius means long leaves! However, the leaves of the specimen that I have photographed are longer than those of longifolius.
