This yellow flower was on a bush along side the stream (Tropic Ditch) at the Mossy Cave viewpoint at Bryce canyon (relatively lower elevation). It was the second week of June.
    What is it?

    Potentilla (most likely P. fruticosa).

I have seen shrubby cinquefoil actually growing right in running water in the Rockies. It was recently placed in Dasiphora (making it D. fruticosa), which separates it from non-woody Potentilla species.
