Whist gardening today, on a large site in Kent UK I came across what I think is Japanese Knotweed. Before I inform the owners of this unwelcome news I would like confirmation that the plant I have photographed is in fact Japanese Knotweed and not some other benign plant.
First photo leaf, 2nd leaf and flower, third stem (horizontal item is piece of a wooden fence).
    Comments please!
    Thank you.

Oh dear..I am sorry to say it is Fallopia japonica...the much dreaded very invasive Japanese knotweed.

Apparently mortgages can be refused on a home that is found to have it.

It comes up through tarmac and concrete.

DO NOT try to dig it up or cut it down, it will regrow from tiny bits.
DO NOT put into compost or landfill.......
Instead spray it with Round up.
Follow directions exactly...do not be tempted to make a stronger solution.
Death will not be instant to this thug, but the chemical is designed to be taken right down to the root and it dies from the bottom up.
    2nd treatment may be necessary.

Before the Olympic games in London it cost millions of £££ to remove/clear the site before they could start to build on it...Quote..."It was estimated the cost of removing Japanese Knotweed during the construction of the Olympic Park in London over 10 acres was £70 million!"

Quote the Telegraph...."Japanese knotweed alone costing the British economy £165m a year, and a total of £1.7bn annually."

    Cornwall council have excellent advise.
