I live in the south central area of PA. This plant has been growing for a few months and now look's like a tree. Roughly 15-18' tall, leaves are about 15 1/2'' across, the trunk is 3-5'' in diameter. See pictures below, please reply or email me at kame.megumi@gmail.com with any additional questions or comments.
Welcome Kame megumi. It is Paulownia tomentosa. Common name here, Foxglove tree. A very fast growing tree. Can be classed as a problem/invasive in some areas. see link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulownia_tomentosa http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=pa...&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1270&bih=501 http://www.invasivespeciesinfo.gov/plants/printree.shtml
Should we cut it down? Do the roots act like a normal tree?(deep and spread out) Thank you so much for your quick reply!!
From what I hear, they have been classified as invasive in the southern states. Here, in Vancouver, BC, they are not, and do not tend to re-seed so we planted one in our back yard. The rooting system goes down deep and can be troublesome to remove. Check out this website: http://www.fast-growing-trees.com/EmpressTree.htm Good luck! They can be a beautiful tree, in the right environment.
