Our 100-foot plus high beech now has a dozen webs of insects. Don't know what the insects are, and the webs are too high to reach safely. Any suggestions about how to get rid of them?

Likely a tent caterpillar of some sort. if so an application of BtK may help but if they are not consuming plant parts, they will be difficult to control and likely unnecessary. There is a member on this forum (Jimweed) that is a pesticide applicator, you could try contacting him to see if there is a good enough reason to try to control these beasts at this time.
