Hi! I have two large strawberry trees that seem to have developed a number of growths at several branch junctions, and I'm just sick about it.

Can anyone tell me what this disease is (see photos), is it fatal, and can it be treated? I'm afraid it may have been introduced when it was pruned by a landscape company two years ago since the growths are in places that they cut.

Any information will be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

May be something harmless, like a burl.

Thanks for responding. I don't think they are burls. The are not hard and woody like a burl. The material is softer. And not all of them stick out like these that I sent photos of.

Ron B -- Wanted to get back to you. Your answer was correct! I had a local horticulturist look at my tree and she said they were burls. She did caution that burls weaken the tree so I should try to keep from having to prune large branches by rubbing off new growth before it gets out of hand.
