I normally plant annual pansies in pots in the spring. Viola × wittrockiana I think they're called. I always thought they were sterile, or at least didn't come true from seed. However, below a pot I had last summer, I now have pansies growing between the patio pavers. Is this a fluke or should I start saving the seeds?

The ones you buy are seedlings also.

I have little pansy seedlings growing in gravel, cracks of cement as well. Tough little plants. I'm not sure why being a pansy implies being a weakling as they are certainly tough, frost hardy plants.
