You can "subscribe" to a forum, which will give you a daily or weekly email digest of forum activity (new threads and posts directly under that forum) so that you can always be informed about what's happening in your favourite forum areas. The subscription lasts as long as you keep reading the latest posting on the thread. If you have not read the latest posting, you will no longer be notified of newer postings.
How to Subscribe to a Forum:
1) Navigate to the forum you want to subscribe to, for example, Invasive Plants.
2) In the upper right corner is a drop-down menu called "
Forum Tools" (note, not Forum Links - Forum Tools is immediately below it on the screen). Click on it. Then click on "Subscribe to this Forum".
3) A new page comes up with another drop-down menu: No Email Notification, Daily Email Notification and Weekly Email Notification.
3a) No email notification is the method to choose if you don't want to receive emails and are instead content to log in to the forums and check your subscribed forums by clicking on "My Settings" in the upper left green menu bar.
3b) The other two options send out an email once a day or week informing you of what's happening in the forum that you have subscribed to.
4) To unsubscribe, click on "My Settings" then find the forum in the list of forums in the main screen area and select "Unsubscribe from this forum".
Subscribing to a thread
This works the same way as for a forum, but the dropdown box says
Thread Tools instead of Forum Tools.
Automatic thread subscription
If you start a thread or reply to a thread, you are automatically subscribed to that thread. This subscription works the same as for other threads you subscribe to - if you keep reading the latest posting, you will stay subscribed; if not, you will no longer receive notifications.
