Tri Color Beech

It's April 26th and my Tri-color beech still looks dead. Are they late to set their leaves and if not what could be wrong? I am in Ohio and the tree is in full sun.

Re: Tri Color Beech

Most of a green Fagus sylvatica out the window here in USDA 8 is just opening its buds.

As a side note your tree will surely be the common 'Purpurea Tricolor' ('Roseomarginata'), with purple (later copper or bronze) leaves touched pink-and-white. 'Tricolor' produces green leaves marked pink-and-white, and may be extinct.

Re: Tri Color Beech

We just put in 3 purple beech last summer, and the leaves have just started to emerge on one of them.

Buds just slightly elongating on the other 2.

Re: Tri Color Beech

Break open a bud and see if there is a tiny green (or purple) leaf curled up inside.

Here 'Dawyck Purple' is not yet showing leaves, and the species has just leafed out partially.

Some of the others are fully leafed out, Rohan Gold was quite early.

Most all of the trees are out now on May 1, just a few Ash trailing the pack (and some obscure maples).
Are all the other trees out in Ohio?
