What do "yellowing leaves" typically mean?

    I have a plant that is supposed to have some nice dark green foliage. But, I've noticed the leaves are turning yellow and it's not doing so good. This is an outdoor plant.

    Clearly it is under some kind of stress, but I don't know what is causing it. Does a yellowing leave always mean the same thing???

    No, unfortunately not that simple. Yellow leaves can result from a variety of conditions; over watering, nutrient imbalance, disease, pH imbalance, cool temps. Can you tell us more about your plant and the conditions it is growing in.

    These are Spirea's that are planted in a fairly shady area next to the house foundation. I suspect its insufficient sunlight, but thought spireas were more flexible in that regard.
