This is the first year that fruit has been noticed on the plant.

  3. I saw it when I was there with the International Dendrology Society group. Have never seen fruit down here (WA). Plants against sunny walls might be more productive.

    Where to plant?

I've just bought a rather large (5 ft) Xanthoceras sorbifolium and am wondering where to plant it. Wet, steep, shaded-in-winter slope? West facing, not so wet, no shade slope? Edge of a steep slope, not wet at all, windy? Space isn't really a problem, as I am trying to replant the land the previous owners pillaged with their chain saw, but with interesting plants. I am just north of Vancouver, WA, facing west, overlooking the Columbia River basin. Warmer in winter than Scappoose, OR, which is directly across the valley.
