Identification: Black feathery fungi

    Can anyone identify the attached black feathery fungi. I live in SE Wisconsin and the
    fungi is growing on the north side of the house in a dark area. We have not had much rain in the past 30 days. I just noticed these today. It is in about 5 different places on the painted ceadr siding.

    Interesting! How many inches across is this patch roughly?

    It's about 3" high and 2" wide and sticks out from the wall about 1". The consistancy is very light and feathery. The others (about 3) are smaller.

    i believe this is a decentigrated form of stemonitis? after it starts sporing the actual fruiting body deteriorates quickly to become just the spore (what u'r seeing here).......it's a type of slime mould...not a mushroom.....and fascinating to see when it first arrives...
