Color: Some flowers are white while some are a light purple.
Fragrance: Slightly putrid leaves, kind of like a frog.
Foliage: Similar in appearance to an Oak tree. Stem is thick and has a reddish coloration, not fuzzy.
Other notes: Soil was recently dumped to fill a hole in the backyard. These plants began sprouting within a month.

    Thank you!

I had seen this, but wasn't entirely sure. If it is Datura stamonium, how can we get rid of this? We have two cats and I'm not sure I'd want them eating it, and the plants have literally taken over this new heap of dirt we have.

Yes, I would agree with 'Marpole' on the Datura. The destinct putrid smelling leaves when burshed is quite noticeable.

Shout out to Long Island! I was born and raised in Glen Cove.
So how 'bout those Islanders...? Ehh. Maybe next year...

Tell me about it, Togata! At this point I wouldn't really mind if they were sold to Kansas City..

Rick DiPietro is on year 3 of a 15-year contract. Purgatory!

This plant used to be called Datura
It has been renamed = Brugmansia
A tender shrub, that needs to be brought inside during the winter

Thank you to everyone for helping me. I know it must be irritating seeing people ask to have the same flowers ID'd over and over, but I did try to search for it myself for quite a while before asking. Unfortunately, I am not very experienced in plant identification yet!

Togata57- Can you even call it 3 years? DP played like a season and a half.. but I knew that was gonna happen. I mean, a 15 year contract? Honestly..

Let's see...I'm figuring that time spent in Uniondale (appropriately enough, Nassau Coliseum could be a dictionary illustration for 'concrete gulag') is like 'dog years'---y'know, one=7. So 3 years feels like 21 to Rick...plus (minus? ooh, nearly a hockey pun there) the lovely experience of the knee surgery...let's just go ahead and round that up to about 35. By the time he puts in another 12 (84) years...I have an urge to picket the coliseum bearing a sign that reads 'Free Rick Now!"

Bet Doug Weight is having a fun time too. St. Louis looks rosy in retrospect.
But, then again, at least Rick has a job. And medical coverage.
    Remember the early 1980s...?
    Sigh.

I wasn't born yet! But they're building a new stadium called THE LIGHTHOUSE (yes, all in caps. At least the emails they've sent me have led me to believe as such). So maybe DP will want to actually play again once (if) they move.

"The Lighthouse"? Hmm. Thought that was a religious publication. ---Perhaps that's the answer! Divine intervention!

As long as they stay AWAY from that Gorton's Fisherman guy. What was that, anyway? Shining example of a management decision, no doubt.

Well, I gather that Rick is back out on the ice, like briefly in practice. Very briefly. But, progress!
Wonder what will happen to Nassau C.? ---County lockup, maybe?

    P.S. Sorry: THE LIGHTHOUSE.
P.P.S. Whoever thought up the Gorton's Fisherman guy is probably the same person/group/management pod who thought up the name 'Blue Jackets' for our local NHL team. I mean, really.

datura and brugmansia are two different things!! datura flowers face upwards and brug's face downwards.

neither is hardy in the ny area, so, your bush/plant will die out once the cold weather hits. i WOULD remove all seed pods, though, just in case any of the seeds survive the winter...
