    Hello,

I've inquiring as to how to avoid trunk splitting in my Autumn Blaze Maple. I have 2 beautiful trees that I planted last August and they are doing fabulous. I have not had this problem yet but have noticed it a lot on other ones in my area and really want to avoid this happening to my only trees! I am in MN, zone 4a and they are planted in the open with full sun. Last fall I wrapped them with that kind of corrugated paper as advised by my local nursery and they made it through the winter great. They said the wrapping would help deflect sun in the winter and prevent this.

I'm planning on wrapping them again this fall, but is there anything else I can do to avoid this? Thanks!
