Paeonia ludlowii
Tibetan peony, Paeonia ludlowii, (Paeoniaceae) is a spectacular, yellow flowered tree peony known only from a small area of southeast Xizang (Tibet).
Commonly cultivated in the West, Paeonia ludlowii is a superb subject for the larger garden, growing to 3 metres or more and flowering regularly under optimal conditions. The species is easily propagated by seed and also sets plentiful seed both in the wild and in cultivation. Nevertheless, Paeonia ludlowii is threatened in habitat because of its limited natural distribution and because plants are often dug up to harvest the root bark, which is used medicinally.
