New Ways with Perennials - Diversity and Ecology in West Coast Gardens (Special Lecture)
Wednesday, March 24, 2004
7:30pm, Woodward 2, IRC Building at UBC
Lecturer Noel Kingsbury
Lecturer Details
Noel Kingsbury is a noted British author
and planting designer. He wrote the ground breaking "New Perennial Garden",
which introduced modern European planting styles to English speaking
readers, co-authored "Designing With Plants" with Dutch designer Piet
Oudolf, and has recently published "Natural Gardening in Small Spaces".
He is part of a Europe-wide network of gardeners keen to develop
contemporary nature-inspired gardens and landscapes, and is
particularly committed to improving the planting of public space
in Britain.
In this lecture, he will explore planting schemes designed to suit
the existing conditions of west coast gardens, and will look at the
opportunities and the challenges facing gardeners in west coast
climates. Using examples from current European practice, Noel will
discuss how plantings using perennials can be made to function in a
way that reduces maintenance, benefits wildlife and improves local landscapes.
