Botanical Watercolour (Course)


Saturday, March 29 AND Sunday March 30, 2008 (one class spanning both days)

10am to 4pm each day


Course Details Join botanical painter Alison Watt in the Garden Pavilion for this introductory course to Botanical Painting. The class will cover watercolour materials (brushes, paints, and paper) and basic watercolour techniques (mixing, glazing, wet-in-wet, masking). Special attention will be given to the concerns of plant painting (greens, whites, darks, stems, leaves, etc.).  

Instructor Alison Watt is a naturalist and visual artist who has been a botanical painter for over twenty years. Her work has appeared in many invitational and juried shows and is in collections in Canada, the United States and Great Britain. She has taught several botanical painting classes for UBC Botanical Garden and in many venues on Vancouver Island (including her studio on Protection Island, Nanaimo). Her classes aim to provide careful instruction in a relaxed atmosphere. Alison is also a writer. Her award winning book, “The Last Island, a Naturalist's Sojourn on Triangle Island”, was self-illustrated.

Please Note Advance registration required. Watercolour paper is provided. Students may bring their own artist quality paints or have paint provided for a $15 lab fee (at the time of the course). Materials list (brushes and paints) to be provided upon registration
