Nature's Creative Edge — An Artistic Way to Arrange Flowers (Course)

Course Details The first step to creativity in flower arranging is to be able to identify and appreciate the creative components nature provides us. Hitomi Gilliam, one of the foremost experts in the world of floral design, will review the elements and principles of design to help clarify the designing process, share her incredible design ideas inspired by the spring landscape at UBC Botanical Garden, and teach the class to arrange stylistically while the course participants create their own floral masterpieces.  

Instructor Hitomi Gilliam, AIFD (American Institute of Floral Design), is a world-renowned keynote lecturer, demonstrator, instructor, consultant, and expert in the art of flowers and floral design. She has lectured at major galleries, museums and botanical gardens in North America and taught overseas - England, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. She has authored 5 books to date, with two earning the American Horticultural Society's “Frances Jones Poetker Award”. In addition, she recently competed in an international floral competition (July 2008) and received the “Gold Award” and “Best of Show” at Singapore Garden Festival, representing Canada as an invited guest designer.

Please Note Advance registration required. Plant material will be provided, but please bring a container of your choice, gloves and tools (secateurs and/or a florist knife).
