Peter Wharton

Peter Wharton was the much admired curator of the UBC Botanical Garden's David C. Lam Asian Garden.

The Peter Wharton Lecture was established to honour Peter's memory and legacy. This lecture will take place in UBC's Chan Centre at 7pm on Saturday, April 17, 2010.

We are pleased to announce Dr. Peter Raven as the speaker for the first lecture in this new series. Dr. Raven, who holds a Ph.D. In Botany from the University of California, Los Angeles and taught at Stanford University, has been the Director of the Missouri Botanical Garden since 1971. Dr. Raven is a widely published author, and an impassioned and sought after speaker on the topic of biodiversity and species conservation.

Dr. Peter Raven will be speaking on the topic of "China's Biodiversity: History, Current Status, and Prospects for the Future".

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and can be purchased online or by visiting the Chan Centre Box office.

The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC is located at 6265 Crescent Road (phone: 604.822.9197).

Cherry Blossom Viewing at Nitobe Memorial Garden (2010)

Spring is in the air!

Escape the stresses of everyday life at Ohanami, the the 26th annual celebration of cherry blossoms presented by the Vancouver Mokuyokai Society at UBC's Nitobe Memorial Garden and the Asian Centre in cooperation with the UBC Department of Asian Studies and UBC Botanical
Garden and Centre for Plant Research. This event is offered in partnership with Asia Voilà 2010 (see Asia Voilà poster attached below).

Time (Ohanami): 12:00 - 8:00 p.m (Asia Voilà runs from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m., so enjoy both events in one visit!)
Date: Saturday, April 10, 2010
Place: Nitobe Memorial Garden and Asian Centre, UBC - 1895 Lower Mall
Note: Entrance Fees may apply. Free for UBC students, faculty, and staff. (UBC ID cards required) .
